Biography
TED JEREMENKO
New England Charm
Ted Jeremenko, born in Yugoslavia in 1938, came to the United States in 1950. He grew up in Philadelphia and in 1964 moved to New York City where he was employed by a major bank for over 20 years designing and developing computer software for various banking applications. While his job satisfied many of his interests, he somehow always felt the need to get involved in something creative, which could give him greater and more immediate satisfaction. Combined with his interest in art and the visual beauty he discovered on his early visits to the eastern tip of Long Island, he started painting in the early 1970s. His early paintings, rooted in the physical and architectural beauty of this part of the country and at times based on actual scenes, were not intended as a realistic interpretation of the things he saw, but instead were more of an expression of his admiration towards the people of the area, who were able to alter the environment with their houses, barns, churches, and other structures without destroying the natural beauty of the landscape.
During the 70s, Ted Jeremenko continued to paint just for himself, but his changed in 1979 following the sale of a painting at his first exhibition at an art gallery in East Hampton, NY. For the next five years, he continued to work at the bank but began to devote more of his free time to painting in order to satisfy his continued success in shows in East Hampton and New York City. In 1983, two of his paintings were included in a book on American Folk Art and his first serigraph, “On Church Street” was published. As a result, his artwork gained a national audience, and its attending success forced changes in his lifestyle. He left his job in 1984 and settled in the East Hampton area to devote his full attention to creating images that try to capture the beautiful natural, and man made landscape which we still have, but must be careful not to lose.
Over the years, 34 of his serigraphs have been published and are now in many private and corporate collections throughout the country. He has also attracted international attention and has had successful exhibitions in Japan and Switzerland. Mr. Jeremenko’s original oil paintings are currently on exhibit and available at Gallerie Je Reviens, 991 Post Road East, Westport, CT.
